Equipment used:

Helicopter: T-Rex SE edition (Fully upgraded kit)
Battery: Thunder Power 2100 - 3cell w/20C burst
Motor: Hacker B20-12L w/ 9 tooth pinion
ESC: Quark 33A
Blades: SAB 305mm
Control: HS-56 (cyclic), Futaba GY401 gyro w/9650 servo

Setup and Photos:

Tail belt or pulley failures? Just turn the rotor head by hand and spray WD40 on to the belt through the tail case. This will decrease friction and stop most problems with belts and pulleys.

Collective pitch? Although I'm not exactly sure how much collective pitch I use. I just try to get as much as possible. It looks to be around ±10°

This photo has all of my linkage measurements. This should help to speed up the set up process.

Left cyclic servo must be setup so that at full negative collective and left cyclic the servo arm will not hit the main gear. This done by offsetting the arm up at the center position. It's not a "perfect setup" but it does not seem to cause any bad tendencies.

6 volt BEC and ESC mounting position.

Rotor Head - Dampening Align now has 2.5mm spacers for the head that will tighten it up nicely for hard 3D. These are included in new SE kits.

Tail Box - I removed two of the bolts and stand-offs so that the output shaft is a little easier to change. (fewer parts)

Thunder power 2100 - 3S, After a flight make sure the re-charge does NOT take more than 1800mAh. If it requires more you may be damaging the pack.

Futaba 9650 tail servo with the 401 gyro will hold very well, and it will even handle rolling tail slides. 401 gain is usually around 35-40%.

This combination is super light weight and provides very high head speeds. 3000-3200 rotor rpm

I have found the quark 33A speed control is a key element to get max rpm from the motor.

Hacker B20-12L runs at 4800 Kv. Very important to use a 9 tooth pinion with this motor.

T-Rex Q and A:

Q: Hey Jason, nice website.....very informative.  I have a question for you, i see that u have ur gyro mounted toward the front of your heli and was wondering if u had any problems with radio interference from the motor being so close.  I also have an SE and recently broke my gyro by mounting it on the top near the tail boom. Thanks for ur time.

A: I have had no interference problems and the heli seems to balance better with it up there. Also the gyro tends to survive crashes better when mounted up front.

Q: I have recently purchased the Quark 33A speed control for my rex and I am curious on how yours is setup. Heli 1,2,3 and etc like the turbo and other things.

A: I use mostly all the stock or default settings in the controller including airplane mode. I just turn the brake off, set the motor type and set to LiPo Low in the basic menu.
